6 Days great gorilla experience safari tour itinerary

Day 1: Volcanoes National Park

Morning drive to volcanoes national park Observe the antics of mountain gorillas on Rwanda’s forested slopes

on the northern Rwanda the home to families of magical, and rare, mountain gorillas. Nearby is Mount Karasimbi, the highest volcanic mountain in Virunga massif. The lodge is comfortable, with roomy and comfortable accommodation with excellent views. Climb Mount Karisimbi, the highest of the eight major volcanoes of the Virungas and straddling the border between DRC and Rwanda. You have optional tours to visit the Dian Fossey’s grave or trek the endangered golden monkeys. There are just two habituated troops with 80 monkeys in total in the park that are available for visiting. You may as well choose to relax at the lodge. Day 2: Volcanoes National Park

Early morning drive to the park headquarters for a briefing by the park’s officials followed by the trekking. This 13,000-hectare national park protects the Rwanda sector of the Virunga Mountains, a range of six extinct and three active volcanoes which straddle the border with Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Bamboo forest is interspersed with alpine moorland, grassland and marsh. Tracking the gorillas through the light mountain forest on the slopes of the Virungas is a magical experience. After spotting them, you are allowed to spend one hour with them to observe and take photos. The Mountain Gorillas in the Parc National des Volcans are part of a worldwide population of just 880 individuals. Dinner and Overnight at Gorilla’s Nest or similar

Day 3: Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, you may choose to participate in either trekking the Golden Monkeys at extra cost, trekking to the grave of Dian Fossey, the grave of Digit who was her favorite gorilla friend as well as the  remains of the Old Karisoke Research Station. In June 2003 the National Parks department first allowed permits to trek these rare primates. After tracking the golden monkeys, you may choose to go for an optional visit to the Banyarwanda community as you have a taste of their lifestyle and culture as you listen to their stories, taste their dishes and dance to their traditional dances. Day 4: Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, you will take a chartered flight to Katara Lodge which is only 20 minutes away from Queen Elizabeth National Park. After lunch, enjoy a short siesta before departing for a launch cruise up the Kazinga Channel. This is a narrow band of water connecting lakes Edward and George. This is one of the most memorable experiences of a visit to Uganda, offering an opportunity to cruise amid members of Africa’s largest hippo and crocodile populations. You will also see mammals and birds as they drink water at the edge. Dinner and overnight at Katara Lodge or Mweya Lodge or Enganzi lodge or similar

Day 5: Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, drive to the park headquarters for an official briefing by the park officials. After the briefing, you shall start your gorilla trekking. This park is better known as the Primate capital of the World due to its enormous primate species. You will see other primates as well like blue monkeys, the red tailed, the black and white colobus, the red colobus, the vervet monkeys etc.  You will have a guided walk through the Bigodi Swamp. The Kibale Association for Rural and Environmental Development Organization manages Bigodi sanctuary wetland and was formed in 1992 with the aim of achieving social and economic development for local communities. After the visit, drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park with views of the Rwenzori snow peaks Dinner and overnight at Mweya safari lodge or Enganzi lodge or similar.
